After leaving a long-winded, but polite comment card post the less than satisfactory experience at their Spanish Inquisition Wednesday Wine Night, we received this response from the manager of Sel on Friday!
Dear Harlow,
I want to thank you for your recent visit to Sel de la Terre for the festive “wine dinner” tasting. I am however, saddened at the events which have marred your evening. The purpose of the wine dinner events is to provide a 4 course prix fix menu paired with 4 glasses of wine at a great value ($45). The menus have always consisted of a 1st course, 2nd course, main course and a cheese course.
We take great pride in our food, service and company. The last thing we want to hear is that the pork was overcooked or the squid was rubbery and that the server argued with you.* All of these issues are unacceptable and not the standards in which we operate. I have brought these issues to the attention of the chef and management team. We are taking measures to ensure this does not happen again.
Once again I want to thank you for your feedback. If you would kindly provide me with your mailing address I would like to send you a gift card with our most humble apologies.
Most Sincerely,
Mr. Nice Manager
Yay for Sel! We received our $50 gift card in the mail yesterday and are thorougly impressed with Mr. Nice Manager. We hope he rises through the ranks of Managerness and becomes Head Manager of the World!
Also, we will enjoy discreetly meeting him when we return to Sel wearing a disguise and eating in the main restaurant. We do fear the wrath of Angry Waitress.*
(*Note: We forgot to mention in our rant that our waitress, hereafter Angry Waitress, allocated the wrong amounts to the wrong credit cards. When we politely told her this, she said it was easy enough to fix, but took the time to tell us that this was our mistake and not hers. We then tried to make peace when Angry Waitress came back by “apologizing for the misunderstanding,” to which she dropped the check on the table, rolled her eyes and walked away mumbling “have a good night.” From her tone, we did not infer that she actually did want us to have a good night, but we could be wrong.)
