Pop Quiz!

So obvi we can’t let one 20% off sale go by without a J.Crew post!

Here are my top picks:

This dress is so SO beautiful and elegant. The collar is a little wide and boatneckish. Super sophisticated. With gold espadrilles or cute colored flats, perfection!

This tunic rocks! it looks amazing with white cropped matchstick jeans, white bermudas, or even just over a bathing suit as a beach cover up. Comes in a fun bright orange too.

If you haven’t bought this yet, you should be slapped. Here’s a plan to help you remedy this situation:

1. Take your Starbucks money/horribly fattening Au Bon Pain sandwich money for three days and throw it in your desk drawer.

2. Grasp the wad of cash in your sweaty palm and exchange it for aforementioned silk tank.

3. Jump and twirl with glee.

Still pricey, but super cute and add a little spark of fun to any boring outfit. Like jeans and a white shirt.*

OKAY! Stay tuned for picks from Shiloh and Apple!

* Sidenote: for years, Shiloh and I have been justifying bizarre color and print choices by saying “how cute would this be with jeans and a white shirt?” Yet neither of us has EVER seen the other actually this fabled  jeans and a white shirt outfit that we have spent so much time and energy acessorizing. One day. One day. Maybe with those patent posy flats…

Okay my music choices as of late have been pretty Juno-saturated since I just downloaded the album (huzzah!), but I’m throwing a few other choice nuggets on here for y’alls viewing pleasure:

  1. All I Want Is You (Barry Louis Polisar- Juno Soundtrack)
  2. Tears Dry On Their Own (Amy Winehouse- Back to Black)
  3. Tire Swing (Kimya Dawson – Juno Soundtrack)
  4. Question (Old 97’s – my college roommate’s best friend from high school’s mix)
  5. Radio King (Golden Smog – my college roommate’s best friend from high school’s mix)

Runner Up ( aka songs I have played out for myself but are really really good):

Books Written for Girls (Camera Obscura)

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (Amy Winehouse’s cover from Bridget Jones Diary)

Here are my jams:

1. Usher – love in this club.

2. Frou Frou – hear me out

3. Celine Dion – taking chances

4. Britney Spears- pieces of me

5. Rufus Wainwright – not ready to love

Runners Up:

Bennie and the Jets- Elton John

Goodnight and Go – Imogen Heap

David Sedaris – Live at Carnegie Hall

I would like to take this time to also talk about one of my all time biggest pet peeves. It is regarding my Ipod nano and a certain center button. This center button has some purpose. It turns the device on, it selects the playlist or song but it also is the cause of the pet peeve that I am MOST intolerant of. While running and my nano is neatly clipped to my spandex bouncing along with my gazel like movements. I am powered by 1 GB of music personally selected by yours truly, but sometimes, my brow furrows at my dear nano’s song selection. At an untimely song selection by nano, I naturally reach down to change that tune. As my finger fumbles around the think plastic case I guesstimate the “next” button zone of the nano’s navigation circle. There is NOTHING worse than mistakenly hitting the center button. Once pushed the your music suddenly jumps to the middle of this horrible song I was trying to change in the first place. I can’t stand waiting till the stupid song tracker goes away. I JUST WANT TO GET TO THE NEXT SONG. I have many pet peeves and MANY complaints about daily life…but this one seems like it could be easily fixed.

OK, time for another Heart Pop Quiz!

What are your Favorite 5 iTunes songs right now? I have the tendency to buy a song and play it over and over and over. Here are mine, some of them are super lame so I apologize:

“No Air” by Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks. I know, I know.

“Praying for Time” by Carrie Underwood

“Say” by John Mayer

“Vanishing” by Mariah Carey

“Apologize” by OneRepublic

I play these all day as the soundtrack to my work-from-home life. Note, these are heavily influenced by American Idol, another sad commentary of being sucked into this show.

So i am a little late. But this is one of my favorites. I love Conan and I rarely catch his live show but I always throw his name in the Youtube search box.

This weekend is a very special weekend for us at heartshaped. WestCoastApple is back on the Right Coast and we will be congregating this weekend for our first annual HSR Summit and possible Easter Egg Hunt. Thus we may (gasp) be too busy to blog.

To hold you over till we get back, we’re thrilled to offer you a very special feature!

Heartshaped Rocks Pop Quiz
(the first of many.)

I decided to spring a pop quiz on WestCoastApple and Shiloh, and demand to know the following:

  • what purse are you carrying today
  • name all the items in it.
  • indicate the “rummage factor”* on a scale of 1-10.

HSR Purse POP QUIZ

Harlow

zip.png

Bag: Cole Haan Zip Satchel, Aerin Collection (black patent)

Items in Bag: Orla Kiely Big Zip Wallet, Pedro Garcia ballet flats (had to get my new R&R jeans hemmed! Also, no wonder it was so heavy today.), Rachel Ray 30-minute meals recipe for Orange Tarragon Duck (yum!), mini Moleskin notebook (ruled), checkbook, Prada aviators (dream!), receipt from grocery store, 2 matchbooks and a business card from Gaslight.

Makeup/Cosmetic Items: a stretched out black hair tie (icky), Bobbi Brown Neutral Lip and Eye palette (AWOL from my gym bag), Bobbi Brown SPF15 Lip Tint, Aveda Brilliant Lip Shine (tastes terrible, but is so shiny!), Chanel glossimer in Spark(I have too many lip glosses in my bag), Bobbi Brown lipstick in Plum (universally flattering, all time favorite lipstick!), MAC Plush Lash mascara in Plushblack (best mascara ever!)

Rummage Factor: 3. Very well laid out with internal pockets. However, there is a middle zippered pocket that divides the bag into two sections. This pocket is isolated, because of the zipper, but it is definitely an abyss in there. I use it exclusively as a “Denial Pocket” for reciepts for guilt-inducing pricey items.

*rummage factor: drop your keys into your bag and shake around. time yourself on how many seconds it takes to find them. Rate from 1 – 10 on how bad the rummage factor is. 1 would be a JCrew magic flip wallet. 10 would be the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag (affectionately known as The Abyss.)
